The Light Triangle // Rifai Dome

Country Jordan
Year 2017
Area 5,000 m2
This wide-reaching property peers down from a hillside overlooking an unobstructed view of Amman. Within it, an additional circular metallic structure was introduced, called to serve as family gatherings and events.

The key constraint was to transform this annex instead of dismantling it after celebrating the son’s wedding ceremony. This geodesic dome was inspired by fractal geometry with an interplay of openness and closure, light and shade. The triangular sheets with the sun’s rays project beautiful ever-changing patterns and appear as mesmerizing as stained glass windows. The triangular shape was given to all the landscape components from water features, floor patterns, and so on. It recreates homogeneity and hence serenity, which is the purpose of this exclusive indoor garden. 50% closed and 50% open, the dome is shaped into a botanical, tropical, scented garden where special species can strive in the created and protected micro-climate.
