A Holy Grid // Jamee' Unas Complex

Envisioned as a holy site, Jamme' Unnas aims to create a landmark to the city through worship, purity and unity for its community.
Its main component be it the Mosque follows the Holy direction, the Qibla. This sense of holy orientation is fundamental in tracing the landscape architecture of the Jamme' Unnas throughout its Central Plaza and public facilities.
The topography is impregnated by vegetated dunes originally inspired by sand dunes which represent the context.
Transcending the thirst of fertile soil amid sand dunes, meant creating an outdoor paradise built around a single yet primary element, water: the essence of all life. A droplet of water circling the mosque, shaping a purity belt around it to profuse purity, meditation, cleansing.
This droplet reverberated life throughout the remaining site, spreading more life all around. An oasis of greenery slowly visualizes, forging a park where life is celebrated and people may have a rest in the heart of the city.
The relationship between the Mosque and the public spaces has shaped the features of all the landscape layers, components, structure and functions.
The landscape layers intertwine with a sensitivity to religious connotations: Site Boundaries: Located in one of the major public parks of Dammam, Jame’unnas surrounded by major Mosques, the site sits amid the King Fahed highway and massive residential blocks.
Architectural elements: Spirituality is at its best with the Mosque being the focal architectural element of the site.
Grid & Qibla: The landscape grid of 3,75m is oriented towards the Qibla pointing out the Holy direction.
Purity ring around architectural elements: A sheer of pure water acting as a protecting shield around the Mosque to preserve its purity and essence.
Mutated Axes: The Main axes are connecting the city within the city through the park creating an escape for the community.
Green Dunes: Inspiring and relaxing green spaces to help people come together, closer to God and nature.
Follies: Scattered to create a playful and joyful atmosphere.
Seating & Monumental Sculptures: Elevate the site with an artsy touch giving the space a certain identity and create functionality to the site.
